Synopsis: During 2009, the world will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his most famous work On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. What does Darwinism mean to researchers, science, and society today? Thanks to advances in various fields that relate to the evolutionary sciences, we are now able to further develop our understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying evolution. Where does this leave Darwinism? This multidisciplinary workshop will explore Darwin’s work and legacy. Speakers from the United Kingdom and the United States will address the complex debates and developments surrounding evolution and the world in the post-genomic 21st century.
